Tie dye was born in the 60s in the United States, as a symbol and manifesto of freedom of the peaceful rebellion movement of the hippies, which opposed the right to the government. Similarly, at the time when Trump was elected and the triumph of the right in America and part of Europe, shops and people brought this motif back into fashion.
The fact that tie dye is back in fashion doesn't mean it should be worn the same way. Today this motif is worn mainly for style rather than political expression, and above all its use has been expanded: previously it was used almost only on t-shirts, scarves and bags, today it can be found on any type of garment or accessory.
As often happens, in this case too, stylists and brands grasp the importance of the social phenomenon and translate it into a concept of style and clothing.
But how is tie dye done? There are different types of techniques to achieve this effect, from the simplest and "do-it-yourself" ones to the most industrializable ones.
Basically this technique requires that the color falls randomly on the garment, dyeing it partially or entirely, but it can also be achieved with prints, spray paints or finishes on the fabric.
The rainbow tie dye with a spiral motif is probably the most famous but not the only one. Tut thanks to the deepening of this technique you can also make things simpler and easier to wear. For example, sweaters or sweatshirts with a single color in tie dye or “dipped” in the dye and then left to run, creating a degraded effect. It can also be done as a print, or using spray paint.
