SLOW DESIGN
Hi There, 👋🏻 i’m Andrea a fashion graphic designer focused on fashion product design for menswear and sportswear. Through this blog I want to share highlights and tips from the field i work in. Hope you enjoy and feel free to get in touch!
“Slow Design - garage system” is the title of a project i’ve closed 12 months ago. I want to tell you more about the idea of the project and how we conceived it into the garments.
An Italian brand from the 90’s, commissioned me the relaunch of the product of the label. The core values of the brand were: craftsmanship, stone wash processing and motorcycle lifestyle.
The first idea was to build a concept behind the longevity of the garments, also through the restoration of the products. A “garage system” of clothing where, after buying your item and using it to the fullest, you could restore it giving it a new life but keeping the signs of the usage, which makes it your garment. The selection of heritage-suppliers and specific techniques gave the project an authentic feeling and created a coherent link with its history.
The concept was translated into one hybrid field jacket, developed in 8 colors specially created for the project.
The dyeing technique of the fabric - 100% cotton, mega Oxford construction - is a ancient Japanese method of dyeing the fabric just 80 meters per time, letting it rest on the air in order to have a shaded effect and making the fabric more resistant. Another important detail was the waxing process, which was helpful both for resistance of the fabric and permeability. The lining was made in a 100% cotton chambray.
Also for the labels there were used antique looms which give the lettering a more realistic feeling. Rivets were applied to the stressed stitching point, in order to give more resistance to the garment.
Every garment was numerated and especially delivered for each client, putting its name ad date of purchase, tracking the lifetime of the story.
